Melodia Festival

The town of Melodia is once again opening its doors and welcomes you to the annual Melodia Festival! Despite the delay, many updates have been made that we are sure will elevate the event to new levels! We hope you all enjoy~

While this post is quite concise, you will find a lot of additional details in the Year 2024 and Year 2023 posts as well, so be sure to check that out!

The festival will run for about 2.5 weeks until November 23rd!

2025 Updates

  • Participation check for the final house prize (in case your house wins!) is now determined by rewards purchased rather than competition points. This way players who did not gain competition points (like last year) but still participated will be able to claim the house prize.
  • Monny now always sorts you into a random house, no matter what. While previous years it was already practically impossible to cheese the sorting system, we want to take away any indication that the sorting process might be biased in any way.
    • To further limit indications that one house is doing much better than another, a lot of competition announcements have been anonymized!
  • Added Melodia Broomstick item to quickly warp around event locations. You will be given one by Monny when enrolling into a house as well as by the Ferryman in Prontera in case you lost yours or want to get one on a different character. This item has a 60-second cooldown.
  • Brand new Storyline Quest implemented with exciting new rewards.
    • Added a special reward for the first player who finished the quest.
  • Brand new Error Quest implemented with several new rewards added.
  • Labyrinth Updates
    • Now enabled from the start of the event!
    • Completed the annual minigame shuffling.
    • Now gives a small amount of House Points when finishing.
    • Added a 3-minute cooldown after a run ends prematurely.
    • Added more precautions to ensure the labyrinth resets properly when a party leaves mid-run.
    • Color Memorization / Coffin updates:
      • Fixed the timer not resetting properly between attempts.
      • Lowered amount of colors required per sequence by 1.
  • Deviruchiling Quest Updates
    • Moved Deviruchiling NPCs slightly away from the quest NPC.
    • Lowered the Halloween Ticket rewards given out by Deviruchiling quest slightly.
    • Cooldown is now account-bound.
    • Added new (rare) rewards.
    • Slightly lowered the items required for cooked food and boosted the droprates of the cooked food option.
  • Walk of Life Updates
    • Added a 2-minute cooldown after a round ends.
    • Slightly lowered tickets and house points given out to first place winners.
    • Added more checkpoints for consolation prizes. You can now win 2, 3 or 4 tickets if you did not win, based on how far you made it.

    • Added a 2-minute cooldown after a round ends.
    • Slightly lowered tickets and house points given out to first place winners.
  • Shadow Tag Updates
    • Shadow Tag Doom Troops can now only be offensively attacked by their respective House Members. You can, however, still use non-damaging skills on any Doom Troop.
  • Town Games Updates
    • When joining Town Games, you now have to sign up with Belle in order to participate. You can play with one game account per round. Furthermore, the Champions will not be visible to you if you have not registered.
    • Hiding, Cloaking or Chase Walk no longer work in Melodia town.

    • Added a stronger version of Stabin Yu for the hard map.
    • Slightly lowered the Daily Ticket Cap (does not apply to the kill quest) from 100 to 75 on the easy map and 150 to 125 on the harder map.
  • Introducing the Melodia Eating Contest! Riella, Sri Tael and Zeno visit from Cirque du Fluff and are readying their stomachs for some bewitching Melodia treats! Wager your Halloween Tickets at the start of Casino hour and see if you multiply your bet!
    • Introduces 6 new Achievements.
  • Get ready for the latest iteration of the Melodia Tournament Instance! Not only is it harder this year, but you can also expect new tricks up familiar opponent’s sleeves and “some” game mechanic upgrades. Additionally, this instance will debut the first version of a difficulty scaling system which promises to make the instance harder and reward greater! • Halloweenies and Melodia Matchan now have a 4th option for custom amounts.
  • Various updates to Melodia Town to reduce stuttering.
  • Added proximity checks for warping NPCs and event spawns for town games and trick or treaters so that they don’t get stuck in places you cannot walk.
  • Added extensive logging server-side so we will be able to show proper performance graphs after the event!
  • Added two new costumes to Costume Raffle.
  • Added a new costume to the Drinking Game, but limited the Trick or Treater buff to 15 minutes.
  • Variety of House Points rebalancing across the board.

Enrolling into a House

The Halloween festival at Melodia has been and will always be a competition among the houses of Melodia Academy. As such, participating in the competition requires you to be assigned into one of the four noble houses.  The competitive activities offered by Melodia pits all four houses against each other through a huge variety of mini games, designed to test your skills, proficiency and perhaps luck as well. Be certain to try out all of them to experience everything Melodia has to offer you, and also earn points for your house and tickets for yourself.

House Windsor

Led by Remy
House Guile

Led by Faa
House Sorin

Led by Sola
House Emure

Led by Sydo

Begin the enrollment process by speaking to Monny (The Grand Monemus) in Melodia Academy.

  • You can find Monny in the left wing of the academy building, which is where you are first teleported by the Ferryman.

This year, Monny is fully responsible for sorting you into a fitting house, and will pick for you based on what it believes your capabilities can offer.

  • Note that your house assignment will apply to all characters within your master account. We highly recommend consolidating your individual participation to one character – so you can maximize your earned points and prizes more effectively!

The Ferryman will then offer to send you to the town of Melodia, the academy or the Melodia manor at your request! You will receive an achievement and a title upon joining a house! To equip the title once you earn the achievement for joining your house, do the following:

  • If your status menu (aka icons) is not already open, do so by clicking the tiny down arrow right under the Status UI.
  • Go to the bottom left and select the Achievement Challenges Trophy Icon.
  • While in the Achievements UI, select the Adventure tab.
  • Navigate to the Achievement you just earned, go to the bottom right, and click the Collect button.
  • If not already opened, access your Equipment Window by pressing [ALT + Q], and make your way to the right most tab at the top, “Title”.
  • You’ll see the name of the house you just got sorted to here (Windsor, Guile, Sorin, Emure). Equip it by double clicking it, and that’s that!

House Competition

House Points will determine which of the four houses will emerge as victorious this year. House points can be earned by anyone for their team through participating in the Halloween mini games. The Melodia Academy registrar will be keeping a record of the scores hidden until the end of the Halloween festival, when the winning house and runner-up house will be announced!

A special prize will also go to all adventurers who are affiliated with the winning houses! You are expected to have participated at least somewhat in the event in order to claim your house prize. This is based on purchases made through Halloween Tickets.

The house that places first will win one of these at its member’s own choice:

The house that places second will win one of the following:

Furthermore, the Top Scorers of each house will receive a special achievement and title!

Player Competitions

Special Honorary Degrees will be awarded to the thirteen (13) most intrepid adventurers who have helped to settle this year’s tie. Individual prizes will be handed out to winners of various mini games who have demonstrated that their skills are on par with the best-in-class students of each house! Those individuals with the most points at the end of the entire Halloween festival will be announced and receive a special, exclusive prize!

  • Note that top-performance is master account driven – so to compete in this area, so you no longer have to specifically participate with a particular character.
  • Overall, thirteen (13) players will win for top performance in each of the following categories:
    • The top-three (3) Minigame winners by accumulated points.
      • Performance will be based on the number of points accumulated for all minigames. Points accumulated through Blackjack will NOT count toward this individual performance total.
    • The top-three (3) Racas Forest Monster Hunters by accumulated points:
      • Performance is based on the number of monsters killed in The Racas Forest Preserve and Forbidden Section. Points only accumulate during Happy Hour.
    • The top-three (3) overall players.
      • This includes but is not limited to town games, minigames, Racas Forest kills and many more activities! Let the best players win~
    • The single fastest party of four (4) in the Labyrinth when this mini game is made available.
      • Be on the lookout for the Labyrinth mini game during the Haunted Festival. You’ll be able to form parties of four (4) players for this mini game.
  • In recognition of outstanding efforts, each of this year’s thirteen Degree recipients, as well as the new competition winners, will receive:
    • A unique, account-bound Wooden Fairy II Egg.
    • Your choice of MVP Card!
      • Cards eligible for this prize are those currently available from the Talon Shop.
      • Maya Purple is furthermore excluded from this list.

  • Lives are now restored between rounds again, and lives/returns are now increased and restored to 50 and 10 respectively by Zarevok again.
  • Added a new scaling difficulty scaling system that goes all the way to 25. Starting at Level 0 (base instance). Every time you clear the instance, you will unlock a higher level difficulty. Each level adds MaxHP + 25% and ATK/MATK + 15% to your opponents.New rewards inside Zarevok’s Treasure Chest will start to appear and will exponentially improve with higher difficulty.
    • Improved Zarevok Treasure Chest rewards include but aren’t limited to Level 10 Stat Foods, Raw Gems, and higher MvP Card Rates.

  • Significant AI and Monster Behavior Updates to all opponents. For discovery reasons and to keep the element of surprise there, we will only reveal information about behaviors already known from previous years and critical information.

Ninja Updates

As previously announced, we are looking into solutions to fix and balance classes. Where we previously avoided making skill changes to “balance out” a class, this approach is gradually shifting. While we still want to preserve the Pre-Renewal feeling, there are edge cases where adjustments are necessary. Ninja will be the first class to receive this treatment, with Gunslinger following shortly after. These updates will serve as a reference point for how we may approach future class reworks.

One of Ninja’s long-standing problems is that a number of their physical skills are ineffective by design (Mist Slash being a clear example), and overall, they are cumbersome to use compared to their magic skills. Mist Slash, for instance, is weaker than simply using Thief’s Hiding. Shadow Slash requires a high level of commitment (and spread of stats) relative to other skills. Throw Huuma Shuriken, intended as a ranged AoE option, carries steep stat requirements while offering limited payoff. The Huuma weapon type itself also holds the class back, being one of the slowest and least effective weapon types in the game, without offering meaningful advantages over dagger and shield setups. To compensate, we have resorted to adjustments through cards, custom weapons, and SQI bonuses in the past. For this update, we are instead focusing on addressing the underlying issues of Ninja’s short-range physical skills (with the exception of Throw Huuma Shuriken).

At a later stage, we will continue improving Ninja by revisiting their remaining physical ranged skills and other underperforming abilities. This will be considered part one of the Ninja update, as we also want to ensure timely delivery of other important content and updates.

Full Ninja Patch Notes

No tl;dr, deal with it.

IMPORTANT: due to the skill (level) revamps, every Ninja will receive a skill reset upon login, once. You can also no longer load builds saved in the Build Saver NPC, however you can still view them.

General

Furthermore, Layla has woken up from her deep slumber and is offering a fresh set of goodies!

PvP Updates

  • Further balanced out initial queue when starting a new BG match:
    • Before: players added to a list based on their class, then sorted by class. We then alternate through the list, distributing the players based on their class one by one. This always ensured that classes are evenly distributed. The downside was that if the same players joined, with the same classes, the teams would often be the same, as the classes were sorted the same way.
    • After: players added to “sub groups” based on their class. Within those sub groups, the characters are shuffled. Then the sub groups themselves are also shuffled within the main list. This ensures that we can still alternate and distribute evenly among the teams, but now teams should be more different between rounds.
  • Updated the “Destroy both Guardian Stones in Conquest in one match [Team]” mission. This mission now includes an option for the defending party. If you can defend at least one guardian stone, you will complete this quest. More changes to quests are on their way.
  • Fixed the “You have completed 5 BG Rounds! Go to Hallbjorn to claim your rewards.” quest message to include a bit about having to complete your main Daily Quest first in order to claim the rewards.
  • Ground Units (i.e. traps) are now cleared when teams return to base after a flag capture in CTF.
  • In Stone Control, when you steal a stone and your team is behind a lot, you will now get extra walking speed. The further your team is behind, the faster you get. Also did a thorough cleanup of some of this mode’s script, so please let us know if anything feels off.
  • WoE Castle Rotation:
    • Viblainn (schg_cas03) → Horn (arug_cas03)
    • Hohenschwangau (aldeg_cas02) → Holy Shadow (payg_cas03)
    • Repherion (gefg_cas01) → Skoegul (prtg_cas04)
    • Himinn (schg_cas01) → Iset (mocg_cas01)
    • Mardol (arug_cas01) → Andlangr (schg_cas02)
    • Iset (mocg_cas01) → Cyr (arug_cas02)

Pet Preview NPC

  • New Feature: Pet Preview NPC
    • A new NPC, Bentham, has been added to provide a Pet Preview function. Players can now view how any pet will appear in-game before obtaining it.
      • Speak to Bentham and enter a pet’s name or ID.
      • If multiple pets match, a selection menu will appear.
      • Bentham will transform into the chosen pet for 10 seconds.
    • This feature makes it easier to preview pets and decide which companions you’d like to pursue.
    • Find Bentham in the Dressing Coach room.

Homunculus Storage

  • New Feature: Homunculus Storage
    • Alchemists now have access to a dedicated Homunculus Storage service through Kafra!
      • Store, withdraw, or delete your homunculi at any time.
      • Each character can keep up to 30 unique homunculi safely stored. First storage slot is free. After that, you can purchase more storage slots for zeny. The amount of slots you have purchased is game account-bound.
      • View detailed stats (level, HP, SP, and attributes) before making choices.
      • Prevents accidental storage if your homunculus is dead, resting, or inactive.
      • Only available to Alchemist classes with the required Basic Skills.
    • This system makes it easier than ever to manage your creations and experiment with different homunculi without losing progress.

General Updates

  • Temporary measure against the Ground Drift skill:
    • In instances, this skill’s damage output is now reduced by 50%.
    • This is a temporary measure while we work on a more permanent solution to fix this skill’s broken power scaling. Drastic? Yes. However everyone has seen how out of control this skill has become. We thank you for your understanding in this matter.
    • A thorough rework of the Gunslinger class and its skills is in the works. We anticipate being able to share plans with you in the near future.
  • In Ancient Tower and Mystic Tower, Maximum Overthrust and Cart Termination now have their zeny cost reduced by 50% (done after any other zeny-reduction calculations). This adjustment was made because these are long instances, and using zeny-heavy skills frequently was becoming quite costly. Similarly, Enchant Deadly Poison, now lasts twice as long.
  • With the two above updates in mind, we have reset the leaderboards of most relevant instances.
  • Rogue classes now keep their Arrow equipped when switching maps, even when they currently have a Dagger equipped.
  • Lowered Temporal Boots equipment level from 99 to 80 to match the Giant Snake Skins.
  • Replaced Red Chile by Soft Feather for SQI bonus quests due to it being obtainable through a quest. Also removed it as well as Shrimp from Summer Race item list and Grandma Boxter. [hotfixed a while ago]
  • Added titles to OGH Crafting/Enchanting NPCs to better indicate what they offer.
  • Dressing Coach now shows ItemID in the menu when searching for an item name. It now also shows a clickable link to the costume you have just selected.
  • Vending shops are now automatically closed when being warped to a different map.
  • Unified and Corrected One-Handed and Two-Handed weapon descriptions
    • Corrected Yule Mace being classified as an Axe.
    • All unidentified names for Sword, Spear, Axe, and Rod/Staff are now simplified to Sword, Axe, Spear, or Staff regardless of One or Two Handed.
    • All Swords now correctly have identified names of either One-Handed Sword or Two-Handed Sword.
    • All Spears now correctly have identified names of either One-Handed Spear or Two-Handed Spear.
    • All Axes now correctly have identified names of either One-Handed Axe or Two-Handed Axe.
    • All Rods/Staves now correctly have identified names of either One-Handed Staff or Two-Handed Staff.
    • Added Huuma Shuriken consistencies.
  • Summer Race updates (mostly for next year, but they were added now):
    • You can now only dig for treasures in the Summer Event with one character per round. This is to prevent players from parking multiple characters across the map to quickly rush to a digging spot when announced. [hotfixed a while ago]
    • Expanded the no-vending zone in Port Malaya to prevent vendors from blocking warps.
    • Added two new costumes to Pro Summertime Boxes:
      • Red Sunbed Costume
      • Purple Sunbed Costume
  • New costume position changer items:
    • Red Sunbed
    • Purple Sunbed
    • Divine Sparkle
    • Summer Sunglasses
    • Candle in Cage
    • Cat Footprints
  • Fixed Drooping Po Costume taking too many slots.

General Updates

  • Summer Race updates:
    • Added one new costume to the basic boxes. This one was missed during implementation.
    • Conjuress NPC now has pages in the headgear selection menu. This fixes a costume (White Sunglasses Cap Costume) being cut off.
    • Fixed Waving Hair Bun Costume sprite not working.
    • Fixed a few typos like the race NPC still mentioning Fast Five.
    • William Bonner has moved to a new map due to a new NPC being added to his existing one.
  • Battlegrounds updates:
    • When players join an existing Battlegrounds match, their class will be taken into account and will less likely be added in the team that already has more of their class than the other team. This includes quite a cleanup of existing BG-related code, so please let us know if something broke.
    • There is now a scaling penalty for late joiners. Players who join on the initial queue still get their 30% bonus and if you join a match within 30 seconds of it starting, you still get the normal amount. However, if you join after that, the amount of coins you earn will scale down based on how long the match lasts. If you join a match right before it ends, your winnings will be negligible.
  • Fixed Giant Octopus not having the MVP flag.
  • Fixed not being able to delete your Homunculus.

Come visit Port Malaya and talk to the Amazing Race Officer for all the information you desire. You can also find a plethora of information on our dedicated Summer Race Wiki page.

  • TamTam’s Tikibar returns on August 1st until August 30th. Find this year’s tikibar right here. To claim your daily freebie, simply talk to SeiSei in Comodo and enter the code found on the tikibar.
  • 4 new weekly Treasure Maps can be found by combining pieces found through Treasure Hunting. The first one to create a weekly map and find the treasure it leads to gets a valuable prize! Treasure Map pieces will start dropping starting August 1st and will end on August 28th.
  • Added new region NPCs as well as new NPC finding quests, monster killing quests and item collection quests. We have also retired a couple of older region NPCs.
  • Added 2025 versions of the Summertime Boxes. This year’s boxes have been seriously overhauled and feature over 100 new costumes and pets!
  • Added a ton of new costumes to the Conjuress recoloring quest, including some cheaper ones.
  • The Starlight Soiree is scheduled to make its return after the Summer Race ends! Prep your dance moves and playlists and see you then!

We hope you all enjoy the Summer festivities! Read on below for more general updates.

General Updates

  • Properly fixed Homunculi not running away when you lose all intimacy.
  • When you lose all Homunculus intimacy, your Homunculus is now put in Rest mode.
  • Pets no longer lose intimacy when you die while using Life Insurance.
  • Updated Elysian Garden entrance to now ask if you want to enter or not, rather than consuming your item right away.

Like mentioned earlier, we will have our regular Monthly Maintenance in a few days from now. The Amazing Summer Race will furthermore end around September 6th.

  • Fixed Faceworm Queen Card working in Vanilla mode.
  • Fixed an issue in Reward Guru where you could buy more than one Rename Token for a character by accident.
  • Several statuses such as FCP and EDP are now dispelled when you leave a BG map.
  • Majestic Helmet Costume is no longer Upper + Middle. It is now only Upper.

Server back online https://talontales.com/server-back-online/ Sat, 21 Jun 2025 05:53:34 +0000 https://talontales.com/?p=8918 […]]]> After a downtime of around 12 hours, our host has completed its massive server move and we are back online.

Please let us know if anything feels off, but all in all you should not notice any difference.

We are aware that there are still some issues going on with the website. Those are isolated issues that are being worked on.

Thank you for your patience and Happy Gaming!

Expected server downtime https://talontales.com/expected-server-downtime/ Fri, 20 Jun 2025 01:49:06 +0000 https://talontales.com/?p=8908 […]]]> We have received word from our game server host that they will be doing a physical datacenter move.

This will happen tomorrow, June 20th, server time unknown at this point. Same goes for downtime.

As per our host:

Impact: We will be physically moving servers between datacenters. There will not be an outage for the entire time range, see MAINTENANCE WINDOW below.

After years of being unable to grow further in our Los Angeles deployment due to Coresite's inability to provide us with additional space, in addition to Coresite's continuous price increases with no improvement in the service offering, we've made the decision to entirely lift and shift our Los Angeles deployment to a different datacenter partner.

Please be informed that we did not take this decision lightly; it's a large number of racks that a sizable team is going to be spending 24/7 over the course of three days moving, but without being able to move into a new footprint with a partner that can and wants to grow with us, we've been left with no choice.

What does this mean for you?

It means that the game server will go down temporarily some time tomorrow, June 20th, at a currently unknown time. The downtime itself is also unknown at this moment. Most likely the downtime will be several hours or part of the day.

Once the physical machine is back online, we will have to restart a lot of services to get things back in working order, which will add additional downtime.

We apologize for the short notice, as we also have received a short notice ourselves. Thank you for your understanding.

  • Homunculi no longer get deleted when they are starving. They do still lose intimacy as usual.
  • Merged rAthena update that makes Poison React work properly:
    • Poison React can now counter normal poison attacks (e.g. Poison Knife, Rusty Arrow, Enchant Poison)
      • Poison armor will no longer trigger this counter, but it still triggers on poison-element monsters
    • When Poison React counters an attack, that attack is now blocked
    • The counter of Poison React is now a damage buff that increases the damage of the next normal attack
      • It will attempt to trigger a counterattack (makes you move closer if not in range)
      • Adds 30% to skill ratio of the next normal attack per level learned, regardless of level used (for players)
      • The buff also adds a 50% poison chance to the next normal attack (60s base duration)
    • Number of Envenom 5 Autocasts is now 1:1:1:2:2:3:3:4:4:5
      • Level 1 technically has 0, but it activates at least once before the status change ends
    • Envenom 5 Autocasts can now also be triggered by weapon skills
    • Duration of Poison React is now capped to 60 seconds
  • New Costume Swap Fairy entries:
    • Forest Friends
    • Fluffy Lovely Fox
